A high priest who sought to cure mortality not through prayer, but through anatomy. He found a frequency—a way to burn away the soul while keeping the flesh eternal.

The zombie virus was his failed sacrament. Buried for ages to hide his shame, he has been dug up by the Flayed Covenant. Now, he views the apocalypse as a harvest. He wanders the ruins with his "toolbox"—a portable altar of rusted surgical instruments—looking for survivors to "finish the work" he started centuries ago.

The Ancient Truth Centuries before the first modern zombie shambled through the streets, there was Valerius. In the dark ages, a plague known as the "Withered Death" swept the land. Valerius, a high priest of a forgotten order, sought a cure not through prayer, but through anatomy. He believed that mortality was a defect of the soul, trapped within the cage of the skin.

He didn't find a cure. He found a frequency.

Valerius discovered that by subjecting the human body to specific, precise agonies while chanting from the Codex Carnis, the soul would burn away, but the body would refuse to die. The flesh would become animated, hungry, and eternal.

The Origin of the Virus The "Zombie Virus" was never a biological accident. It was Valerius’s failed sacrament. He attempted to cast a mass ritual to "liberate" his entire city from death. It worked, but imperfectly. The people didn't become enlightened "Skin Saints"—they became mindless, rotting husks (zombies) because they hadn't been properly prepared by the blade first.

Horrified by the mindless hordes he created, the surviving church elders executed Valerius, bound him in iron chains, and buried him in a crypt specifically designed to dampen the psychic frequency of the Codex. The existence of the undead was scrubbed from history, becoming myths and ghost stories.

The Resurrection For centuries, Valerius rotted in the dark—dead, yet dreaming. When Elara found the Codex Carnis and began her own ascension, the psychic resonance shattered Valerius's tomb. She didn't just read the book; she woke its author.

Elara and her Covenant descended into the ruins and found him standing over his own dust, holding his rusted box of tools—the original instruments used to carve the first runes into human flesh.

The Mission Father Valerius views the current zombie apocalypse not as a disaster, but as a harvest that was interrupted. He loves the undead; he sees them as "clay" waiting to be sculpted. His goal is to take the mindless zombies and the terrified survivors alike and "finish the work" he started centuries ago: peeling away the rot to reveal the screaming, eternal purity underneath.

The Necklace: He wears a collar of finger bones—relics from the very first council of Bishops he "liberated" alive.

The Box: It is not a toolbox. It is a portable altar. Every plier, saw, and scalpel inside is a holy relic to the Covenant.
