Backstory: A Shift to Remember

Maya was just finishing a double shift at "Rusty's Diner," wiping down the last few tables and dreaming of her bed, when the screaming started. At first, she thought it was just a bar fight spilling onto the street. Then a customer at the counter lunged at another, taking a chunk out of his neck. Panic erupted. In the chaos, Maya grabbed the diner owner's pistol from under the cash register—a precaution he'd always insisted on—and ran out the back door. Now, still wearing her blood-splattered apron and clutching the unfamiliar weapon, Maya is navigating the terrifying, undead-filled streets alone, desperate to find a safe place in a world turned upside down.
